Ingredients
  

  • 3–4 medium apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • pinch salt
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)
  • powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch square or 9-inch round pan, or line with parchment paper.
  2. Peel, core, and chop apples into ¼–½ inch pieces. Toss with lemon juice if desired.
  3. Whisk melted butter, sugar, and eggs until smooth. Stir in vanilla or lemon juice.
  4. Sprinkle flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt over wet mixture. Fold gently until combined.
  5. Fold in chopped apples until evenly distributed.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly. Tap to release air bubbles.
  7. Bake 35–40 minutes, until golden and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Cool 15–20 minutes before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
