Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef or beef and pork mix
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 5 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheese blend
  • 1 cup heavy cream or half-and-half (optional)
  • 1/2 cup water or chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a baking dish.
  2. Mix ground meat, onion, garlic, parsley, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and oregano. Form into meatballs.
  3. Arrange sliced potatoes in the baking dish and nestle meatballs between them.
  4. Drizzle with olive oil, pour in broth and cream if using, and season lightly.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  6. Uncover, sprinkle with cheese, and bake 10–15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
