Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • butter, for grilling
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce, optional

Method
 

  1. Melt butter in a skillet and cook onions over medium-low heat until caramelized. Set aside.
  2. Form ground beef into thin patties and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook patties in a hot skillet until browned and cooked through. Set aside.
  4. Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, relish, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce to make secret sauce.
  5. Butter one side of each bread slice. Spread sauce on the other side.
  6. Assemble sandwiches with cheese, patty, onions, and more cheese. Grill until golden and melted.
