Ingredients
  

  • 4 slices sturdy whole wheat or multigrain bread
  • 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1-2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened (or mayonnaise)
  • freshly ground black pepper, optional

Method
 

  1. Butter one side of each bread slice. Place cheese on the unbuttered side of two slices.
  2. Add tomato slices, drizzle lightly with Worcestershire sauce, and sprinkle with pepper.
  3. Top with remaining cheese and close sandwiches with buttered sides facing out.
  4. Cook in a skillet over medium heat until golden, flipping once, until cheese is melted.
  5. Remove, rest briefly, slice, and serve warm.
