A classic Southern cornbread dressing with sage, onions, and a moist, tender crumb.

Ingredients
  

  • 8 cups crumbled cornbread
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 2 tsp dried sage
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 3–4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a baking dish.
  2. Melt butter in a skillet and sauté onion and celery until soft.
  3. Stir in sage and poultry seasoning, then remove from heat.
  4. Combine cornbread, vegetables, eggs, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
  5. Gradually add broth until mixture is very moist.
  6. Transfer to baking dish, cover, and bake 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 20 minutes until golden.

Notes

The mixture should be very moist before baking to ensure the best texture.
