A simple homemade bread cooked entirely on the stovetop with a soft interior and crisp exterior.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter

Method
 

  1. Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  2. Combine flour and salt in a bowl. Add yeast mixture and oil and mix to form a dough.
  3. Knead dough until smooth, about 5 minutes. Place in oiled bowl and let rise until doubled.
  4. Shape dough into a round loaf.
  5. Heat a heavy pan over low heat. Add dough, cover, and cook 12–15 minutes until golden.
  6. Flip bread, cover, and cook another 8–10 minutes until fully cooked.
