Ingredients
  

  • 6 cups day-old bread, sliced and toasted
  • 8 oz piloncillo, chopped
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup mild cheese, crumbled

Method
 

  1. Simmer piloncillo, water, cinnamon sticks, and cloves until dissolved into a syrup.
  2. Arrange toasted bread in a baking dish and pour syrup over to soak.
  3. Layer raisins, nuts, and cheese over bread.
  4. Repeat layers and finish with remaining syrup.
  5. Bake at 350°F until warmed through. Rest before serving.
