- Preheat oven to 375°F and lightly grease a baking dish.
- Blanch asparagus briefly, drain well, and spread into the baking dish.
- Melt butter in a saucepan, whisk in flour, then slowly add milk until thickened.
- Stir in cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper until smooth. Pour over asparagus.
- Mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle evenly over the top.
- Bake 30–35 minutes until bubbly and golden. Rest briefly before serving.
