Ingredients
  

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheese

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a baking dish.
  2. Cook onions in butter over medium-low heat until caramelized. Cool slightly.
  3. Combine ground beef, caramelized onions, breadcrumbs, eggs, broth, garlic, and seasonings.
  4. Shape mixture into a loaf and place in the baking dish.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes, then top with cheese and bake 10–15 minutes more until done.
