Ingredients
  

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup milk or sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 3 tbsp milk (for glaze)

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing well.
  3. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk or sour cream to form a soft dough.
  4. Chill dough for at least 1 hour, then roll out and cut into donut shapes.
  5. Heat oil to 350°F and fry donuts until golden on both sides.
  6. Mix powdered sugar and milk to make glaze. Dip warm donuts and let set.
