- Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish.
- Brown ground beef with onion, salt, and pepper. Drain excess grease.
- Whisk condensed soup with milk or broth until smooth.
- Layer potatoes, beef, cheese, and sauce. Repeat layers. Pour remaining sauce over top.
- Cover with foil and bake 60–70 minutes. Uncover and bake 10–15 minutes until golden.
