Ingredients
  

  • 4 slices bread (sourdough or whole grain)
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1-2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Gruyère, or blend)
  • 1 medium apple, thinly sliced
  • black pepper or red pepper flakes (optional)

Method
 

  1. Butter one side of each bread slice and shred cheese if needed.
  2. Place two slices butter-side down and layer cheese, apple slices, seasoning, and more cheese.
  3. Top with remaining bread slices, butter-side up.
  4. Cook in skillet over medium-low heat until golden, flipping once.
