Method
Bake the Fries
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the frozen French fries on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake according to the package instructions until golden and crispy, about 25-30 minutes.
Cook the Chili
- While the fries are baking, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
- Add the diced onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onions are softened.
- Stir in the chili beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer the chili for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens.
Assemble the Fries
- Once the fries are done, remove them from the oven. Spread the fries on a large serving platter or individual plates. Spoon the chili evenly over the fries. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
Melt the Cheese
- Place the assembled fries under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, just until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve
- Top the chili cheese fries with sour cream, chopped green onions, and jalapeño slices (if using).
