Dough Preparation
- In a stand mixer bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt until well combined.
- Heat water, milk, and butter to around 110°F to 115°F. Mix warm liquid into dry ingredients with a beaten egg.
- Mix with a dough hook until a smooth, elastic dough forms, kneading for 5-6 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Roll and Bake
- Roll the dough into a large rectangle, spread softened butter, and sprinkle cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, and apple.
- Cut the dough into strips, roll into coils, and place in a greased 9x13-inch pan.
- Let rolls rise until puffy, about 30 minutes, while preheating oven to 350°F.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown, then cool slightly in the pan.
Topping Preparation
- Melt caramel bits and heavy cream in a saucepan over low heat until smooth. Pour over warm rolls before serving.
