Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Use quality flour for the best results.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast Ensure the yeast is fresh.
  • 3/4 cup warm water Warm to around 110°F (43°C).
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Extra virgin olive oil is recommended.
Topping Ingredients
  • 1 cup tomato sauce Use a flavorful sauce, homemade or store-bought.
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced Fresh mozzarella gives a superior taste.
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves Use whole leaves for more flavor.
  • to taste salt and pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
  3. Add warm water and olive oil to the mixture.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface.
  7. Spread tomato sauce evenly over the dough.
  8. Place mozzarella slices on top of the sauce.
  9. Add basil leaves and season with salt and pepper.
  10. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes.
