Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cut your brioche or challah into 1-inch thick slices and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Pour the custard mixture over the arranged bread slices, ensuring they are thoroughly soaked. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Bake the soaked bread for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown and set in the center.
  6. Remove from the oven and sprinkle a thin layer of sugar over the top. Use a kitchen torch or broiler to caramelize the sugar.
  7. Let cool slightly before slicing. Top with fresh berries, powdered sugar, and maple syrup if desired.
