Preparation
- Cut your brioche or challah into 1-inch thick slices and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture over the arranged bread slices, ensuring they are thoroughly soaked. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the soaked bread for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown and set in the center.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle a thin layer of sugar over the top. Use a kitchen torch or broiler to caramelize the sugar.
- Let cool slightly before slicing. Top with fresh berries, powdered sugar, and maple syrup if desired.
