  • 1 small Yellow Onion, diced Shallots could be a great substitute.
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic, minced Fresh garlic packs a punch!
  • 3-4 oz Pepperoni, cut in half Turkey or vegan versions work just as well.
  • 1 half Green Bell Pepper, chopped Swap for sweeter red or yellow peppers if desired.
  • 0.5 cup Sliced Olives Optional if they aren’t your jam.
  • 24 oz Marinara Sauce Pizza sauce or homemade varieties are excellent alternatives.
  • 2 teaspoons Dried Oregano An Italian seasoning mix can work in a pinch.
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Basil Use fresh basil for an uplifting touch.
  • 3.5 cups Mozzarella Cheese, shredded or cubed Mix it up with other cheeses if you like!

Method
 

How to Make Deconstructed Pizza Casserole
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the pasta according to package directions, draining it 1-2 minutes short of al dente.
  3. Brown the ground beef, sausage, and diced onion in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked.
  4. Sauté the minced garlic with the meat mixture for an additional minute.
  5. Combine the cooked meat mixture with pepperoni, bell pepper, olives, marinara sauce, oregano, and basil in a large bowl.
  6. Stir in the drained pasta and 2 cups of mozzarella cheese.
  7. Transfer the mixture into a buttered 13x9 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  8. Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 15 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!
