Laundry has always been one of those ordinary household routines that rarely requires much thought. Empty the pockets, sort the clothes, start the washing machine, and move on with the day.
That's why I wasn't expecting anything unusual when I reached into the pocket of my husband's favorite pair of jeans.
Instead of finding loose change or forgotten receipts, my fingers wrapped around something cold, heavy, and surprisingly sharp.
I slowly pulled it out.
It was a strange piece of metal unlike anything I recognized.
It had a pointed tip, spiral grooves running along its body, and a sturdy steel finish that made it look more like a specialized tool—or perhaps something much more mysterious.
For a split second, my imagination took over.
