Ingredients
  

  • 2 lbs fresh asparagus, trimmed and cut
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Blanch or steam asparagus until just tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. Melt butter in a saucepan, whisk in flour, then slowly add milk until thickened.
  4. Stir in cheddar, Parmesan, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  5. Combine asparagus with cheese sauce and transfer to baking dish.
  6. Mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle over casserole.
  7. Bake until bubbly and golden on top. Rest briefly before serving.
