How to Make Homemade Pumpkin Spice Chocolates
-
Melt Chocolate: Begin by melting 3/4 cup of chopped dark chocolate in a pot over low heat. Stir constantly until the chocolate is smooth and glossy—this should take about 4-5 minutes.
-
Mix Filling: Transfer the melted chocolate into a medium bowl. Gently fold in 1/2 cup of pumpkin puree and 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice, mixing until well combined to create that luscious filling.
-
Chill Mixture: Place the bowl in the refrigerator and chill the mixture for about 30 minutes. This will help it firm up; then let it sit at room temperature for 5 minutes to make it easier to handle.
-
Roll into Balls: Scoop out the chilled pumpkin mixture and roll it into 12 even balls. Place each ball carefully on a sheet of parchment paper. Take your time to ensure they're nicely formed!
-
Melt Remaining Chocolate: Use the remaining 3/4 cup of dark chocolate; melt it in a pot over low heat just like before, stirring until it's smooth.
-
Dip the Balls: Dip each pumpkin ball into the melted chocolate, making sure they are fully coated. Remove them with a fork and place them back on the parchment paper.
-
Add Toppings: Optional: Before the chocolate sets, feel free to sprinkle a touch of extra pumpkin pie spice on top for that final autumn flair.
-
Cool and Enjoy: Chill the chocolates in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour until they are completely set and enjoy the delightful taste of fall!

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Chocolates Recipe FAQs
What type of chocolate should I use for the best results?
Absolutely! I recommend using chopped dark chocolate for a rich, sophisticated flavor and a satisfying shell. However, feel free to switch it up with milk or white chocolate if you prefer a sweeter treat.
How do I know if my pumpkin puree is good to use?
Very! Check for a vibrant orange color and a smooth texture. If there are dark spots or a watery consistency, it might not be fresh. You can use canned or homemade puree; just make sure it’s pure pumpkin without any added ingredients.
What’s the best way to store leftover chocolates?
To keep your homemade chocolates fresh, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. This helps them maintain their creamy filling and prevents them from drying out.
Can I freeze the pumpkin spice chocolates?
Absolutely! Freeze your chocolates in a single layer on a baking sheet to start, then transfer them to a sealed bag or container. They’ll stay delicious for up to 3 months. When you're ready to enjoy them, let them thaw in the fridge for about an hour before serving.
What if my chocolate coating is not smooth when melting?
If your chocolate seizes up during melting, it could be due to water exposure; make sure your utensils and the pot are completely dry. For troubleshooting, try adding a teaspoon of coconut oil or shortening to the melted chocolate. This will help restore its silky texture for an even coating.
Are these chocolates safe for people with nut allergies?
Great question! The recipe itself is nut-free if you skip the optional nuts. However, always check the ingredient labels, especially on chocolate and specialty ingredients like pumpkin puree, to ensure there’s no cross-contamination if you're serving someone with nut allergies.
